Hamzat ul-Wasl (Connecting Hamzah)
Hamzatul Wasl always appears at the beginning of a word, and the letter immediately after it must carry a sukoon or shaddah. This is what makes connection possible — when the previous word ends in a vowel, the Hamza is dropped and that vowel flows directly into the saakin (sukoon) letter, allowing smooth reading without a pause.
Hamzatul Wasl is added at the beginning of a word when the first letter cannot be pronounced by itself because it has a sukoon or begins with a shaddah (which contains a sukoon in its first part).
When starting from that word, we pronounce the Hamzatul Wasl to help us begin reading.
However, when the word comes after another word, the Hamzatul Wasl is not pronounced. Instead, the vowel of the previous word joins directly to the saakin letter after the Hamza, making the recitation smooth and connected without stopping.
